Carrying home: A night of film & performance celebrating Irish women in London
Join us at The Feminist Library for a night celebrating the activism, community, and legacy of generations of Irish women in London. Curated by artists Rachael Ryder and Aislinn Evans, the programme will cover:
Breaking Ground (2013; 62m) – a documentary about the London Irish Women’s Centre and the radical organising that took place there in the 20th century.
Hotel Chaplain (1965; 20m) – an archival film on the conditions of Irish women workers at a hotel in London
A Rock & a Hard Place (2023; 10m) – mixing archival footage and spoken word, this collaboration between Ryder and Evans reflects on diaspora, migration, and memory between Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Performance by Helen Maguire. Helen is a performance & textile artist from Belfast based in London. Helen’s keening performances bring the traditional mourning practice to life to reflect on grief, memory, and family.
Both Breaking Ground and Hotel Chaplain are rare and hard to find, so don’t miss this opportunity to experience part of Irish history & feminist history with us.
All ticket fees will be donated to the Sameer Project in Gaza Palestine; solidarity between occupied peoples.
