Brockley Anarchist Reading Club
The Brockley Anarchist Reading Club is diving into Peter Kropotkin’s seminal work, The Conquest of Bread. Written over a century ago, this book is one of the foundational texts of anarcho-communism, laying out a practical and passionate vision for a free society based on the radical idea that abundance—not scarcity—should define our lives.
Kropotkin systematically challenges the systems of capitalism and state socialism, arguing they artificially maintain poverty and hierarchy. He offers a powerful blueprint for a revolutionary transition built on the principle of mutual aid and 'Well-being for All.'
For this session, we'll be starting at the beginning and reading up to and including Chapter 8 ('Ways and Means'). This crucial section covers the foundational arguments on Our Riches, the necessity of Expropriation, and how society can immediately guarantee Food and Dwellings for everyone.
Our reading group is open to all. Whether you’re a longtime anarchist, a curious newcomer, or anywhere in between, join us to read, discuss, and imagine ways to build a freer, fairer world together.
