Babylon
A landmark of Black British cinema and incendiary portrait of late-70s working-class life in Brixton, with racial tension and police brutality fuelling the anger that would erupt in the 80s uprisings. Anchored by Dennis Bovell’s propulsive score, the film draws on his personal experiences of racist policing targeting his Sufferer’s Hi Fi sound system. The BBC rejected it at the time as “too controversial.”
